Beyond driving techniques, Sierra Nevada Off Road Academy focuses on fostering a supportive community where learning is a shared adventure. Whether it’s tackling advanced rock-crawling obstacles or taking to the desert at speed, students come away with more than technical expertise—they gain a deep appreciation for the off-road culture, the landscapes they traverse, and the camaraderie that makes every trail ride unforgettable.

Jason Green

Jason’s journey into off-road adventure began over three decades ago when he first got behind the wheel of a 1974 CJ5 Jeep. What started as a simple curiosity quickly turned into a quest for mastery, with each upgrade and trail ride teaching him new skills and deeper respect for the off-road lifestyle. Over time, Jason found himself seeking increasingly challenging routes, which led to the purchase of an extreme rock buggy—an endeavor that not only pushed the limits of his driving but also introduced him to advanced recovery techniques and the importance of collaboration within the off-road community.

More recently, his love of exploration took him into high-speed desert terrain, piloting a CanAm side-by-side across the expansive landscapes near his home. Though it was new territory for him, Jason’s broad foundation—honed through years of dirt bike riding and rock-crawling—helped him adapt quickly and confidently.

Jason is no stranger to the off road industry and is demonstrated by his passion and commitment to growing and educating the off road community. In 2019 he began a popular off road podcast, Wheeling, Wine and Whiskey, with his friend Chris to expand, entertain and educate the community. It has far exceeded their expectations and they are humbled by the support from fellow off road enthusiasts. Throughout each new adventure, his focus has remained the same: to learn, grow, and share the joy of off-roading with fellow enthusiasts. For Jason, the real reward lies in facing obstacles head-on and discovering that the impossible can become possible with the right mindset and skill set.

CJ Arnesen

CJ’s fascination with off-road driving has roots in cherished childhood memories—sitting on his dad’s lap, guiding the family car through snowy paths on Christmas tree outings. The thrill of navigating unpredictable terrain and the satisfaction of bonding over these adventures fueled his enthusiasm, long before he was old enough to drive. As soon as he secured his license, CJ took the family’s 1998 Dodge Durango to Hollister Hills SVRA, eager to learn by doing and seeing how far his newfound passion could take him. When he and his dad purchased and restored a 1978 Jeep CJ5, CJ discovered an enduring love for building, modifying, and perfecting off-road vehicles.

Today, he’s taken that early spark and transformed it into a lifelong pursuit. Over the years, CJ has honed his skills behind the wheel of a heavily upgraded 1981 CJ7, constantly pushing its limits and refining his techniques along the way. His dedication extends beyond mechanical tinkering—he stays on the cutting edge of off-road tech and communication gear to maximize both safety and enjoyment out on the trails. Whether restoring a classic 1943 Willys MB Jeep with electric power or piloting a modern Rivian R1S, CJ’s guiding principle remains the same: combine the best of the old and the new, respecting tradition while embracing innovation.
